Travel Geotac #1: Marina Barrage – Part C

Welcome back! This is Part C about the Marina Barrage, a continuation from the introduction on the Marina Barrage (MB) and views from about the Viewing Pad. Here we see a wide-angled view of what it looks like at the end of the Pump House (PH).

Here’s a closer look to the left of the PH. We can see that there’s some kind of a floating platform linked to a mini marina docks with boats.

Well one of the activities at the Marina Barrage is boating or kayaking or canoeing. Here we can see three boats moored to the docks.

I’m not too sure but I doubt you can bring in your own kayaks or canoes as I did not see any boat storage facilities. But you can certainly rent or buy a ride on these boats to enjoy the glide through the calm waters of the reservoir.

No worries about being suck into the flood-gates by accident as there are yellow “Danger” floaters and buoys clearly marking where the boats should not go to.

A good number of schools and one polytechnic are invovled in helping to take care of the Marina Reservoir. It’s nice to know my own alma mater is listed here. Cool!

As you can see from the picture above, to the right of the PH you will find a series of low curved walls leading into a long stretch of various water fountains further in which makes up the Water Playground (WP).

Here’s an aerial shot showing where the low curved walls with water fountains starts and leading into other parts of the WP that’s under the shade.

Peeking through the low curved walls and fountain showers, you can see that the WP stretches all the way to where that guy in a red polo t-shirt and jeans is standing. Can’t see that guy? (Clue: He’s right next to the middle pillar) Well see those four pillars at the center and right of the other end? That’s where the WP ends with a shallow wading pool. The whole stretch has different areas of water fountains for kids and those young-at-heart to play in.

The above shot shows the middle open area of the WP where water from the ground jets up. It’s quite fun as you don’t really know where the water jets will shoot up from.

Ok here’s a zoomed in shot of the guy in a red polo t-shirt and blue jeans. He’s taking a shot of his kids playing in the shallow wading pool… hey wait a minute was it his kids or his adult friends? I can’t remember clearly now but it doesn’t matter because the WP is meant for anyone both young and old. However, you do have to heed this sign nearby though (see below).

Into art and sculpture? Near the end of the PH where the mini marina docks are located you can enjoy two sculptures. Here’s one below with the Singapore Flyer in the background.

And the other is a metallic sculpture shown below.

Looking through the lower hole you can see some pipes which lead into the PH. And this side of the PH is located just opposite the Central Courtyard with fountain which is right in the middle of the MB.

Next blog we’ll cover more on this Central Courtyard with fountain but for now just let me leave you with one last shot of the MB from the end of the PH.
