Well when I first began toying with what to call this blog I thought it would be nice to create a unique name for it. Since this blog will be mainly about sharing about travels, exploration, photography, reflections, appreciating and learning, I thought why not form an acronym or a “word” using various verbs related these activities.
After some brainstorming, I came up with Go, Explore, Observe, Think, Appreciate, Click and Share and so the name Geotacs was born. A check online showed that no one has registered the domain name www.geotacs.com yet. Hurray! So I thought okay let’s settle for this name.
But then later it dawned on me that hey wouldn’t it be cool if I could just add the letter k in to make it Geotacks. Then it could mean that this blog is like a board where I can tack my thoughts, reflections and photos of places I’ve travelled to or visited. As best as I could, I simply couldn’t come up with any suitable k-word that is a verb. So out came my trusty Concise Oxford Dictionary and after trawling through tons of k-words, I finally found a suitable one, it’s the word kindle. I thought that’s not a bad verb to add since it can maybe perhaps mean that the blogs can in some way kindle readers to also Go, Explore, Observe, Think, Appreciate, Click and Share too? So Geotacks it is then.
Just when I was really pleased to have finally settled on the blog’s name to be used, upon trying to register it, lo and behold, guess what? Geotacks is already registered as a dot-com and dot-net domain name! I did do a Google search earlier which didn’t turn up any Geotacks.com nor Geotacks.net and so I thought hey that’s cool I should be able to register it then. Big mistake! I forgot that I should have used Whois to do a proper check because there are people out there who will just register a domain name and not use them at all nor submit it to be listed on the search engines. Sigh… a lesson learnt… use the right tools!
So it’s back to Geotacs and there you have the history of the journey of how the name of the blog came to be.
But who knows maybe the journey to name this blog hasn’t come to an end just yet. Who knows what can happen in the future…
And that’s how life is too, isn’t it? A journey. And like all journeys there will be false starts, wrong turns, dead ends and at times a need to back track. But journeys can also gift us with joy, happiness, pleasant surprises, learning, wisdom, and perhaps even contentment. Same with travels too. Who knows where the journeys will eventually lead us to but let’s just Go, Explore, Observe, Think, Appreciate, Click and Share. Geotacs!
