Travel Geotac #1: Marina Barrage – Part D
Here’s a bird’s eye view of the Central Courtyard (CC) with a fountain in the middle. To the left is the Pump House (PH). Near the lower left curve of the fountain, you should be able to see a sculpture. Below is a close up shot of that sculpture.

I guess since the other metallic sculpture shown towards the end of the yesterday’s post had a male figure on it then to be fair this metallic sculpture has to have a female figure. The interesting thing is this female figure sculpted is much larger and she is shown swinging the world while the male figure is much smaller and standing on top of the world. Does that mean that while the men maybe on top of the world, it’s the women who really makes the world go round?

Here’s another view of the CC from the end of the PH with the upcoming Marina Bay Sands Resorts and Casino and the partially hidden Singapore Flyer in the background.

As mentioned earlier, opposite of the CC fountain is the PH and here is a shot through the fountian jets of water.
Normally there aren’t any Singapore flags adorning around the fountain but National Day (i.e., Independence Day) is coming up soon on August 9th so that’s why in this shot you get to see the flags.

Another higher up shot of the CC from a different angle. Although not too clear but at the lower left corner is another sculpture but this time made of stone and ceramics.

Here’s a clearer close up shot of the sculpture.
If you look carefully at the shots of the CC, you would also noticed that there’s a small oval stage at one curve edge of the CC fountain where you can have performances or for taking jump shots like this one shown below.

And of course you can also use the stage for taking formal group shots too.

By the way, if you are interested in getting souvenirs, somewhere opposite of the oval stage and behind an upward sloping pathway, you can find a souvenir shop called Barrage Cove.

And what souvenirs can you buy at the Barrage Cove? Well it’s all kinds of souvenirs of Water Wally of course!

By the way, Water Wally is the mascot of the MB. You call see Water Wally all over the MB, not as a life-size walking version but just static board version like this one shown below.

This particular Water Wally is located just ouside the Information Center shown below.

Here I suppose you can get more information about the MB and I think this is also where you meet your tour guides if you are part of a larger group that has made arrangements for a guide to bring you around. Hmm…I wonder if it wouldn’t be more cool to have life-size walking Water Wally greeting people here instead of a static one. But then the poor person in the Water Wally would not be cool but feeling real hot inside!
Anyway, the other day when I was there, I saw this wedding couple just outside the Information Center having their photos taken by their wedding photographer.

The groom also showed his delight with his lovely bride in the following way…

And finally…

Before logging off for this post, here is one more shot of the CC of the MB taken from just above the Information Center within the Sustainable Singapore Gallery (which we”ll visit in another blog).

If you look to the left, you’ll see an upward sloping pathway going up. This is one way to get to the Green Roof where we’ll visit in the next blog.
Thanks for coming by and reading. Cheers and do come by again!
